A 2.5-dimensional Parallel Singer-Songwriter : Sayuri (さユり)
Sayuri (さユり) is a Japanese Pop singer and songwriter affiliated wih Yamaha Music under Ariola Japan. She like to describe herself as Sanketsu Shoujo Sayuri (酸欠少女さユり), in English : Hipoxia Girl Sayuri. This is symbolic of her being a 2.5-dimensional parallel singer-songwritter. Her persona split into three parts : two 2-dimensional characters and a 3-dimensional character (herself).
Starting in Music
She start playing guitar since sixth grade. Her inspiration at the time were a japanese boyband group name Kanjani8. She start playing guitar because she want cover their song in band and wanted to accompany the vocals with guitar. Then she start to write her own song and performed live in the street at second year of middle school.
Afterwards, she joined an acoustic duo called LONGTAIL, under name of Asuka. She started performing in the streets and live houses of places like Hiroshima, Osaka, and Nagoya. By this time, she had dropped out of high school. In 2012, she won the Grand Prix at the finals of the fifth music revolution, a competition sponsored by Yamaha Music :
Becoming Sanketsu Shoujo Sayuri
After winning a competition, she began to call herself Sanketsu Shoujo Sayuri. Sayuri told in the interview with Mikiki, that she always unconsciously had a feeling of loneliness, but she always tries to make positive songs to process the regrets of her past. Even though there is no insecurities in her voice while singing, she still isn't very confident about her music. Then YKBX (a visual artist creating Sayuri’s artworks) said he found different personalities in Sayuri, one is the person in the white poncho and the pitch black hair appearing in front of the camera and in MVs and the other is the insecure, as Sayuri sees herself. Which matches her self-description as a 2.5-dimensional parallel singer/songwriter quite well.
Sayuri Personalities
She release her major debut "Mikazuki" in August 25, 2015, and become ending song of anime Rapon Kitan : Game of Laplace. And finally she release her 1st album Mikazuki no Koukai (ミカヅキの航海, Crescent Moon Voyage). It reached first on Oricon's Daily Album Ranking and 3rd on its Weekly Album Ranking.
